STOUGH CANYON NATURE CENTER & HIKING TRAILS


A 6.7 mile loop that leads to Verdugo Peak starting from the Stough Canyon Nature Center. Beginning at the top of Walnut Avenue, the fire road leads to the Verdugo Mountainway Trail. The Verdugo Mountainway is an extensive trail system which extends from the Sun Valley area, south to Brand Park in Glendale, and northeast to Tujunga and LaCrescenta. Hiking and mountain biking are permitted on the fire roads. The smaller trails are for hiking only, and along with the fire roads, lead to spectacular views of the San Fernando Valley.

Trails are open from dawn to dusk, but please note that the trails may be closed at any time due to hazardous conditions as a result of inclement weather including, fire, excessive wind, rainstorms, etc. Signage will be posted at the trail head. Please do not enter the trail area if closed signs are posted.

DOCENT-LED HIKES – Temporarily Suspended due to COVID-19
The Stough Canyon Nature Center offers various docent-led hikes each month. Hike length and difficulty will vary. Hikers should bring water and wear appropriate clothing and shoes. Starting locations for hikes include the Stough Canyon Nature Center or Wildwood Canyon Park. Adults must accompany children under 10 years of age. Strollers are not recommended on hikes. All hikes are subject to change and may be cancelled due to inclement weather.
