The Burbank International Film Festival today announced that acclaimed DGA award-winning director, writer, and producer Paul Feig, known for his iconic comedy films, including his cult classic film “Bridesmaids,” “Ghostbusters” (2016), “Spy,” “A Simple Favor” and creator of the TV series “Freaks and Geeks” will be the special honoree at this year’s 16th Annual Awards Gala. Feig’s upcoming heist comedy “Jackpot!” starring John Cena, Awkwafina and Simu Liu releases worldwide on Amazon on August 15th followed by the sequel to “A Simple Favor”, also with Amazon, to release in Spring 2025. Feig was just confirmed to direct his next film for Blumhouse, a horror based on “Worst Roommate Ever” article and subsequent Netflix series.
The Gala award ceremony event will take place on September 29, 2024, at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport hotel.
Burbank, nicknamed the “Media Capital of the World,” hosts over 1,000 media companies, including giants like Warner Bros. Discovery, The Walt Disney Company, and Feigco Entertainment. The Burbank International Film Festival (BIFF) seized the opportunity to honor comedic maestro Paul Feig, who calls the city home. Upon learning of the accolade, Feig expressed his delight, stating, “I’ve lived in Burbank for over 30 years and couldn’t love this city more. So, to be honored by the BIFF means more to me than I can ever express. Burbank truly is the media capital of the world and so this honor makes me feel like the king of the world.”
Paul Feig’s remarkable career has not only brought laughter and joy to audiences worldwide but has also set a new standard for comedy and storytelling.
“We are incredibly excited to honor Paul Feig at this year’s Awards Gala,” said BIFF President Kurt Patino. “His contributions to TV and film have been groundbreaking. Paul has a distinctive voice and a knack for creating unforgettable characters and stories that resonate with audiences.”
The 16th Annual Awards Gala, hosted by actress Kelly Stables, promises to be a night to remember, celebrating the best from the festival with awards, celebrity presenters, and an opportunity to hear from the honoree himself. Attendees can look forward to a keynote interview with Paul Feig by The Hollywood Reporter’s Scott Feinberg, who interviewed last year’s BIFF honoree and Burbank native, Tim Burton, for Mr. Feinberg’s acclaimed podcast, Awards Chatter.
Tickets for the Gala are now on sale and can be purchased at givebutter.com/BIFF2024. Early booking is recommended, as this prestigious event is expected to sell out quickly.
